Amdoparvoviruses are primarily known as the causative agents of Aleutian disease in mustelids, but they can also infect canids. In March 2026, a novel outbreak of raccoon dog and fox amdoparvovirus (RFAV) among Doberman Pinschers in Serbia was reported. Meanwhile, the first reports have also come in from Croatia and Bulgaria.

So far, only Doberman Pinschers have been reported as affected dogs. It is currently unclear whether other breeds may also be susceptible. The exact modes of transmission have not yet been conclusively determined either.

Possible symptoms include:
🔹 Eye and nasal discharge
🔹 Weight loss and poor coat condition
🔹 Liver dysfunction
🔹 neurological abnormalities
🔹 Corneal edema

The infection can become chronic and often leads to death in affected animals. The incubation period is about two weeks to two months; however, the virus may remain detectable in the blood for a longer period of time.
