Nemaline myopathy (NM) in American Bulldogs is an inherited disease caused by a recessive mutation in the NEB-gene. Affected dogs exhibit muscular disorders such as muscle weakness, hypotonia, hypoventilation and swallowing dysfunction. Typically, thread-like rod formations called nemaline bodies can be found in skeletal muscle fibers.
