Detailed description
Two genetic variants in the TPO gene have been identified in the breed German Longhaired Pointer, that are associated with the familial thyroid follicular cell carcinoma (FTFC). Dogs with two copies of each variant or both variants have an approximately 16 times higher risk to develop FTFC compared to dogs not carrying the variants. Most of the dogs studied were over 10 years old at the time of diagnosis.
