Type II Hyperoxaluria

General description

Hyperoxaluria is characterized by increased formation of oxalate crystals in the urine. These can accumulate in the kidneys, leading to acute kidney failure and the formation of kidney stones or urinary stones. Symptoms also include general weakness, loss of appetite, muscle wasting (muscle atrophy), and neurological abnormalities such as diminished or absent spinal reflexes. The disease usually appears within the first year of life and progresses rapidly.
