Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH)
General description
A genetic variant of the CYP11B1 gene, which is associated with adrenal hyperplasia, has been described in a cat. This condition causes a disruption in cortisol production. Sex hormones, as well as hormones that regulate fluid balance, are also produced in the adrenal glands and are indirectly influenced by them. The affected male cat exhibited increased water intake (polydipsia), increased urine output (polyuria), and high blood pressure. In addition, she was small for her age, had thickened skin, an enlarged mammary ridge (gynecomastia), and exhibited aggression, particularly toward male cats.
