E-Lokus Sonderfarben: EG, EH, eA (domino, grizzle, zobel, hare-pied)
E-locus special colours: EG, EH, eA (domino, grizzle, sabel, hare pied)
General description
The eg allele codes for a coat pattern called "Domino" in the Afghan Hound, "Grizzle" in the Saluki, and "Sable" in the Borzoi. This pattern is characterized by a light mask with a so-called "widow's point." The eA allele codes for the typical "husky" pattern, which is similar to the "domino" pattern. The eh allele, in combination with the KB/- a/at genotype, results in the phenotype known as "sable" in the Cocker Spaniel. This is characterized, similar to "Domino" in the corresponding breeds, by a light facial mask and dark overlay.

Detailed description
The eg allele encodes a coat pattern known as “Domino” in the Afghan Hound, “Grizzle” in the Saluki, and “Sable” in the Borzoi. This pattern is characterized by a light facial mask with a so-called “widow’s peak.” The eA allele encodes the typical “Husky” pattern, which resembles the “Domino” pattern. The eg and eA alleles are dominant over the e allele, but recessive to EM and E. The typical “Domino” or “Husky” pattern is only expressed phenotypically when the ky/ky combination is present at the K locus, and at/at at the A locus. When combined with KB/- at the K locus, this leads to gray-mottled coloring; when combined with ky/ky Ay/-, it results in cream to yellowish colors without dark-tipped hairs. The eh allele, in combination with the KB/- a/at genotype, leads to the “Sable” phenotype in Cocker Spaniels. This is characterized, similar to the “Domino” pattern in the respective breeds, by a light facial mask and a dark overlay. In combination with the ky/ky genotype, eh/- results in a dirty reddish color, also referred to as “Gold Sable.” The eh allele is located at the E locus, between E and e. A genetic test is available for both American and English Cocker Spaniels.
