Detailed description
The third component (C3) of the complement system plays an important role in the immune response to microbes like bacteria, fungi or parasites. The causative genetic variant prohibits the formation of functional C3 units and the chain of defence mechanisms is broken. Affected dogs exhibit higher susceptibility to infections. Glomerulonephritis, caused by C3-deficiency dependant cell death in the complement system, is often diagnosed for those dogs.
