Particularly the tail length bestows the characteristic look of most dog breeds. To dock the tail is forbidden in most countries. According to the Animal Welfare Dog Ordinance, exhibiting and participating in events where these dogs are compared, tested or judged is also no longer permitted.

A genetic analysis allows the confirmation of a natural origin of a short tail. By mating two heterozygous dogs the quantity of the litter is reduced because of the homozygous genotype being lethal. This is another reason for performing the genetic test.

In six additional breeds studied there is no correlation between the analysed variant and a short tail: Boston Terrier, English Bulldog, King Charles Spaniel, Miniature Schnauzer, Parson Russell Terrier, Rottweiler

</details>

["post-218219","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
