Comme le ventricule gauche (qui assure la principale fonction de pompage du c\u0153ur) est \u00e9paissi, dilat\u00e9 et affaibli en cas de DCM, le c\u0153ur ne peut pas pomper efficacement le sang dans l&rsquo;organisme. Une variante autosomique r\u00e9cessive du g\u00e8ne LMNA associ\u00e9e \u00e0 une DCM a \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9e chez la race Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. La maladie provoque une acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration soudaine et intermittente de l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 cardiaque (tachycardie ventriculaire paroxystique). Il peut \u00e9galement y avoir des signes de dysplasie de la valve mitrale (valve cardiaque situ\u00e9e entre l&rsquo;oreillette gauche et le ventricule gauche) et de modification des tissus du muscle cardiaque (fibrose myocardique). L&rsquo;\u00e2ge d&rsquo;apparition de la maladie varie selon les cas.
