Comme la sulfatation des prot\u00e9oglycanes du tissu cartilagineux joue un r\u00f4le important dans le d\u00e9veloppement du squelette, la variante g\u00e9n\u00e9tique chez le caniche nain d\u00e9termine une petite taille bien visible et une locomotion anormale.<br \/>Les chiots atteints pr\u00e9sentent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement les premiers sympt\u00f4mes d\u00e8s l&rsquo;\u00e2ge de trois semaines. Ils poss\u00e8dent des pattes arri\u00e8re tr\u00e8s saillantes, des articulations \u00e9largies, une cage thoracique aplatie, des os tubulaires raccourcis et d\u00e9form\u00e9s, une sous-occlusion et des pattes d\u00e9form\u00e9es (similaires \u00e0 des pieds bots).
