Pour garantir un fonctionnement correct du contr\u00f4le des mouvements, les voies nerveuses de la moelle \u00e9pini\u00e8re ne doivent passer que d&rsquo;un seul c\u00f4t\u00e9 du corps \u00e0 la fois. Chez les chiens atteints du syndrome BHS1, cet ordre strict est perturb\u00e9 et les voies nerveuses changent de c\u00f4t\u00e9 dans la moelle \u00e9pini\u00e8re. En cons\u00e9quence, les chiens ne peuvent pas cibler soit la jambe arri\u00e8re gauche, soit la jambe arri\u00e8re droite, mais sautent toujours sur les deux jambes. Comme cette d\u00e9marche ressemble au saut d&rsquo;un lapin (bunny en anglais), la maladie est appel\u00e9e syndrome de Bunny Hopping.
