General description<\/strong><\/h4>

A genetic variant of the factor IX gene has been described in cats that is associated with hemophilia B. This inherited bleeding disorder causes a mild to severe tendency to bleed and symptoms such as large bruises, nosebleeds, and bleeding in the skin, muscles, and joints. More subtle symptoms, such as recurrent loss of appetite, lethargy, fever, and lameness, may also occur. Following major injuries or surgeries, severe cases can be fatal without treatment or preventive measures. This condition is caused by a genetic deficiency or reduced activity of Factor IX, a clotting factor essential for blood clotting that plays a key role in the coagulation cascade.<\/span><\/p>
