General description<\/strong><\/h4>

In cats, a genetic variant in the LPL (lipoprotein lipase) gene has been described that leads to hyperlipoproteinemia. This is a disorder of fat metabolism, and affected cats exhibit slower growth rates and are underweight; among affected female cats, stillbirths are more common. In addition, fat deposits in the skin (cutaneous xanthomas), a milky-white discoloration of the blood plasma (lipemia), and of the retinal vessels (lipemia retinalis) may occur. <\/span><\/p>
